About Leadership in the Public Sector Program
The Leadership in the Public Sector program (LPS) is a distance education degree completion program whose primary assumption is that exercising effective leadership in the public sector is different from leadership practices in the private sector due to unique features of the public sector. In other words, LPS is a degree completion program designed to focus on leadership in non-market environments (such as local, state, and federal government organizations, and non-profit institutions.) One of the main challenges of the 21st century is the effectiveness of public and nonprofit organizations. To evaluate and to participate effectively in organizations of the future requires a broad based understanding of the political, philosophical, and practical dimensions of public leadership. The LPS on-line degree completion program significantly focuses on providing non-traditional students with a liberal arts foundation in the ethical, theoretical, and policy analytical skills necessary to be effective leaders in public sector organizations.
A Versatile Degree
LPS is specifically created to provide non-traditional students with a liberal arts foundation in the ethical, theoretical, and policy analytical skills necessary to be effective leaders in the public sector organizations. It allows you to change or advance in your present career without taking a leave of absence or adhering to a rigid class schedule. Some will use the degree as a first step for acquiring a teaching accreditation; others are interested in government careers. Both of these fields are expected to be in heavy demand in the foreseeable future. Other students are may seek a four-year degree program that offers many options.
